ABOUT CENTENARY BANK

We are Uganda’s leading Commercial Microfinance Bank serving 3 million customers, with an asset base of UGX 6.3 trillion. Financial inclusion is key for us and we are reaching out through 81 branches, 207 ATMs, over 7,400 Agents, and several other digital channels including CenteMobile banking, CenteOnline banking, CenteVisa debit & prepaid cards, and Mastercard Platinum debit card.

Our History

Like every little child, and adult, we were born and born to exceptional and visionary founders. Our history dates back to 1983 when we started as a credit trust of the Uganda National Lay Apostolate. Our operations started in 1985 with two reasons; serving the rural poor and making a meaningful contribution to the socio-economic development of Uganda. In 1993, we transitioned to Centenary Rural Development Bank Limited and were licensed as a full-service commercial bank.

Our shareholders

Centenary Bank was established on a strong Catholic Church foundation and this is reflected in our ownership. Our shareholders are also diverse and cut across both institutional and individual owners as seen below.

19 Catholic Dioceses, which are all independent legal personalities incorporated as Registered Trusteeships: Arua, Fort Portal, Gulu, Hoima, Jinja, Kabale, Kasana-Luwero, Lugazi, Kampala, Kasese, Kotido, Lira, Masaka, Mbarara, Mityana, Moroto, Nebbi, Soroti, and Tororo. - 41.4%

Registered Trustees of the Uganda Episcopal Conference. - 31.7%

SIDI - Solidarite’ Internationale pour le Development et l’Investissement (International Solidarity for Development and Investment) based in France, invests in developing countries through institutions to foster financial inclusion, social and economic development. - 10.5%

TRIODOS SICAV II – TRIODOS MICROFINANCE FUND,a sub-fund of Triodos SICAV II, an undertaking for collective investment, organised as an investment company with variable share capital with multiple sub-funds, organised and existing under the laws of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. - 7.5%

TRIODOS CUSTODY B.V. a limited liability company organised and existing under the laws of the Netherlands in its capacity as legal owner of TRIODOS FAIR SHARE FUND, a mutual fund, organised and existing under the laws of the Netherlands. - 7.5%

Others (below 0.09% shareholding) comprising of 23 legally established religious institutions some of which are affiliated to Uganda Episcopal Conference and or the respective Catholic Dioceses. - 1.1%
